Running out of places to bring your kids? Why not take your kids to the museum for a change of scenery from the typical playgrounds and parks? Museums are fantastic places to challenge young brains, and even better, they offer a wonderful chance to connect with your children through knowledge. Here are several museums in Kuala Lumpur that we think you and your kids would enjoy that are kid-friendly and free!
There’s no better place to learn about Malaysia’s rich history and culture than at the National Museum. The structure, which was modelled after a typical Malay palace, has artefacts spanning over four galleries and dating from prehistory to the present. A reproduction of the 10,000-year-old Perak Man, the oldest skeleton found in Southeast Asia, as well as wartime weaponry, royal beds, and statues are among the intriguing items in the collection. A trishaw, a bullock cart, and a tiny steam locomotive are among the vehicles from history that are on show in an outdoor display for your viewing pleasures too.

The Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery is located inside the glass structure of Sasana Kijang. Bank Negara Malaysia’s centre of knowledge and learning excellence has everything there to know about the significance of economic history in Malaysia. Six permanent galleries are available — Children’s, Islamic Finance, Bank Negara Malaysia, Economics, Numismatics, and Art— and are dispersed over its four floors. These galleries include RM1 Million Tunnel, a long tunnel built of various Malaysian banknotes, interactive exhibitions, paintings, and sculptures. You may also check out a selection of family-friendly programmes inside the museum.

3. Royal Malaysian Police Museum (Muzium Polis Diraja Malaysia)
Last but not the least, the Royal Malaysian Police Museum provides an engaging history of Malaysia via the history of the Royal Malaysian Police. Three exhibits in this little museum take you on a journey through the history of law enforcement, beginning with the founding of the Royal Malaysian Police. A striking picture is created by artefacts like police uniforms, commonplace objects like an old typewriter, a pith hat, and a drinking water filer, as well as an outstanding armoury full of weaponry used by criminals and police, including knuckledusters, rods, and swords.
Address: 5, Jalan Perdana, Tasik Perdana, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Opening hours: Tue – Sun: 10 am – 6 pm (closed on Mondays); Fri: 9 am – 2.30 pm
